I recently spent a day in Verla, a charming old mill village in Kouvola, Finland, and it was one of those places that quietly leaves you in awe. Nestled among forests, Verla feels peaceful and timeless, with its history evident in every building and path.
You can see the video of my visit from my Instagram.
At the heart of it is Patruunan Pytinki, the former mill owner’s residence, which has just reopened as a restaurant after nearly two years of careful restoration. Visiting it was like stepping back in time, with its historic charm carefully preserved.
Located about two hours from Helsinki by car, Verla is easy to reach for a day trip. Whether you are drawn to industrial architecture, cultural heritage, or just looking for a unique and peaceful destination, Verla is a place that leaves a lasting impression.
You can learn more about the area through VisitKouvola website and VisitKouvola Instagram.
