About me

Husband, father, artist and creativepreneur

Hello and welcome to my page. I am really glad that you are here. My name is Henri Hagelberg, and I am the artist behind textuuri. Here's my story:

I started painting during my parental leave in 2022. Looking for a new creative outlet, I discovered textured art online and decided to give it a try. I've always been creative and greatly enjoy creating with my hands.

My background is in finance, and I worked in investment management and private equity for five years before I jumped out of the corporate world and started my career as an artist. Before my finance career, I followed our family tradition and served two years in the military.

Both my previous professions were heavily focused on rules and discipline. In my artwork, I take the opposite approach. I look to break the rules and create what I want when I want. I still maintain discipline in how I continuously develop my skills and run my business, but I like to keep my art free.

I create a mixture of textured art and abstract expressionism. My style is fairly versatile, with the common denominator across all my paintings being texture. I try to create artwork that is not just for the eyes but that also invites the viewer to touch and feel it. I favour coarse and imperfect structures, and you'll find my work very rarely polished. I have a studio and office space in our home in Kouvola, Finland.

Nature is my biggest source of inspiration. It's visible in the themes, colour palettes and tools I use to create my artwork. In addition to using traditional artists' tools, I like to incorporate materials foraged from nature, such as twigs, rocks and pinecones, and use them for organic mark-making. I tend to favour neutral and earthy colours. You'll see many of my paintings feature for example umber, sienna, greens, white and black.

My main approach is to break down the themes and concepts of nature into textured patterns, shapes and colours. I go for rough and coarse textures and commonly include sand in my artwork. My work mostly follows the Scandinavian design aesthetic with a mixture of some wabi-sabi. Occasionally I also like to create really colourful and bright paintings.

Most of my original paintings have been sold to Central Europe, the United Kingdom and Finland. You can find my fine art prints sold worldwide. I also create bespoke textured artwork for private individuals and companies. If you'd like to commission a custom painting, please email me and we can start designing your dream textured artwork.

Social media has played a huge role in my art career right from the start. I share my creative process and artwork on a daily basis online. The main platform I use is Instagram, but you can also find my work on YouTube, Facebook, TikTok and Pinterest.

My aim is to create entertaining and educational content, share my story and spread the exciting world of textured art as widely as possible. I am very open in my content and share details of my process and materials. I hope not only to promote my own artwork but also to inspire others to get creative. A driving principle behind my social media presence has been that art should be fun and shared, not secretive. As such, I also offer a range of online courses both for complete beginners interested in starting textured art, as well as for more experienced textured artists interested in further developing their skills.

Thanks for listening to my story. If any of my artwork resonates with you, please let me know. You can purchase fine art prints of my work directly from the shop. If you'd like to commission a custom painting or purchase one of my originals, please contact me at info@textuuri.com

Best,
Henri
